Heneral Luna and Goyo Return to Cinemas This June 12
Heads up, history buffs and movie lovers! Two of the most talked-about historical Filipino films are making their way back to the big screen this June 12, just in time for Independence Day. Heneral Luna and Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral will be shown once again in select cinemas, giving both longtime fans and new viewers a chance to relive the powerful stories of two Filipino heroes.
These films don’t just entertain, they also spark reflection. Directed by Jerrold Tarog and produced by TBA Studios, both movies earned praise for their bold storytelling and impressive cinematography. Heneral Luna, which came out in 2015, focused on the fiery and passionate General Antonio Luna. Meanwhile, Goyo, released in 2018, told the story of the young and idealistic General Gregorio del Pilar. Together, they form the first two parts of the so-called “Bayaniverse” trilogy.
The timing couldn’t be better. With the final chapter, Quezon, expected to hit theaters later this year, this is the perfect moment to revisit the journey that led us here. These films go beyond textbooks, giving a raw and cinematic look at the sacrifices of Filipino heroes and the complexity of their stories.
