BTS Inches Closer to Reunion as More Members Complete Military Duty
The long wait for BTS fans might soon be over, with two more members finishing their military service. RM and V, known offstage as Kim Nam-joon and Kim Tae-hyung, were officially discharged this week, sparking excitement among ARMYs across the globe.
Their return follows the earlier discharge of Jin and J-Hope in 2023. Jimin and Jung Kook are expected to complete their service in the coming days, and the last member, Suga, is set to follow later this June. With all seven members nearly done, the group is gearing up to reunite in 2025, just as their agency Hybe previously hinted.
RM and V greeted a crowd of media and fans as they left their base in Chuncheon, saluting in uniform and expressing gratitude. RM mentioned his eagerness to return to music, while V shared that he feels renewed and wants to reconnect with their fans as soon as possible.
This return marks a significant moment for the group, which paused group activities back in June 2022. At the time, the members cited the need to recharge and pursue individual paths. RM even spoke candidly about the pressures of K-pop fame, admitting that a decade of constant schedules left little room for personal growth.
Since their debut, BTS has become a global powerhouse, with chart-topping hits, Grammy nominations, and massive fan support. But despite their success, military service in South Korea is mandatory for nearly all able-bodied men, and BTS was no exception. While there were public calls for exemption due to their contributions to Korean culture, the band ultimately chose to serve, aiming to return stronger.
Now, with their 12th debut anniversary just around the corner, it looks like the reunion is truly within reach. A massive “We are back” banner lit up Hybe’s headquarters on the same day RM and V were discharged, hinting at what’s to come. And judging by RM’s words during a recent livestream, fans can expect new music and surprises in the near future.
