Did Sang’gre Outshine Batang Quiapo in the Ratings Battle?
It was a strong start for Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre as it aired its pilot episode on June 16. The fantasy series drew in an impressive 13.7% aggregated rating, putting it slightly ahead of its main rival, FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, which scored 12.9% on the same night.
Breaking it down by channel, Sang’gre pulled 11.4% on GMA 7 and 2.2% on GTV. Meanwhile, Batang Quiapo spread its audience across three networks, earning 6.9% on TV5, 3.9% on A2Z, and 2.1% on Kapamilya Channel.
The good momentum also lifted the next show in GMA’s primetime lineup, Mga Batang Riles, which got an 8.5% rating, beating its direct competitor Incognito by a hair at 8.3%. Other shows that night included Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Celebrity Collab Edition with 3.9% and Saving Grace at 5%.
However, the battle didn’t end there. By Tuesday, June 17, Batang Quiapo quickly regained the lead with a 13.3% rating, while Sang’gre dipped slightly to 12.1%. Interestingly, when looking at single-channel numbers, Sang’gre still performed stronger on GMA 7 with 10% compared to Batang Quiapo’s 7.2% on TV5 alone.
Wednesday, June 18, showed the same trend. Batang Quiapo held firm with another 13.3%, and Sang’gre settled at 11.4%. On a single-channel basis, Sang’gre got 9.4% on GMA 7 while Batang Quiapo had 7.1% on TV5.
Meanwhile, Mga Batang Riles slipped slightly to 7.9% and Incognito stayed steady at 8.4%. PBB Celebrity Collab managed 3.8% and Saving Grace was at 4.7%. Fans are now waiting to see if Mga Batang Riles can bounce back in its finale airing this June 20.
While Sang’gre won its opening night fair and square, Batang Quiapo proved its staying power in the following days. It looks like GMA’s new Sang’gres will have to summon extra magic to keep pace with Coco Martin’s powerhouse drama.
