‘Solo Leveling’ Reigns Supreme at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards
Solo Leveling made a powerful impact this year, emerging as the biggest winner at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards. The anime, based on the popular South Korean web novel, captured fans' hearts worldwide and claimed a whopping nine awards, including the most prestigious title of Anime of the Year.
The story centers on Sung Jinwoo, a once-weak monster hunter who stumbles upon a mysterious system that lets him level up with each battle. His transformation from underdog to unstoppable warrior has resonated with viewers and earned the anime several top honors, including Best New Series, Best Action Anime, and Best Main Character.
Not only did it dominate in content and character categories, but Solo Leveling also swept technical and international accolades. It took home Best Ending Sequence and Best Score, while its lead character’s voice actors won Best Performance in English, Brazilian Portuguese, and Castilian Spanish.
Organized by Crunchyroll, a major anime streaming platform, the annual Anime Awards recognize creative excellence in anime across genres and regions. This year, more than 51 million votes poured in from fans around the globe. Crunchyroll President Rahul Purini emphasized how anime continues to shape personal identity and connect people through emotion and storytelling.
Other notable winners included Demon Slayer for Best Continuing Series and Best Animation, Frieren: Beyond Journey's End for Best Drama and Best Background Art, and Look Back as Film of the Year.
With Solo Leveling taking center stage, it’s clear that anime inspired by web novels and fresh storytelling formats are gaining global recognition. It also proves that great action, emotional arcs, and relatable underdog journeys will always strike a chord with fans, no matter where they’re from.
