GMA’s Award-Winning Film ‘Green Bones’ Is Coming to Netflix This June

The highly praised drama Green Bones is finally coming to Netflix. Starting June 19, viewers all over the world will be able to stream the movie that made waves during the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

Produced by GMA Pictures and GMA Public Affairs in collaboration with Brightburn Entertainment, Green Bones isn’t just another local drama. It’s a deep, emotional story that dives into guilt, redemption, and the hidden weight of the past.

At the heart of the story is Domingo Zamora, played by Dennis Trillo, a prisoner awaiting release after serving time for the murder of his own sister. Just when freedom seems within reach, a young prison guard named Xavier Gonzaga, portrayed by Ruru Madrid, begins to interfere. Gonzaga becomes obsessed with keeping Zamora locked up, believing there’s more to the story than what’s on the surface.

The film plays with a haunting belief from local folklore, that green bones found in someone’s remains are a sign they lived a good life. It’s a strange and poetic detail that adds another layer to the story’s emotional weight.

Behind the camera is director Zig Dulay, known for his ability to bring raw human stories to life. The film is based on a concept by JC Rubio of GMA Public Affairs, and the screenplay was crafted by no less than National Artist Ricky Lee together with Angeli Atienza.

Adding even more star power to the already powerful cast are Michael de Mesa, Wendell Ramos, Ronnie Lazaro, and Alessandra de Rossi, along with special appearances from Iza Calzado and Nonie Buencamino.

Green Bones wasn’t just a hit with the audience, it also swept major awards at the MMFF. Aside from Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor wins for Trillo and Madrid, the film also took home Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Child Performer for Sienna Stevens.

If you missed it in theaters or just want to experience it again, Green Bones will be ready to stream on Netflix starting June 19. Don’t miss this gem of Filipino cinema that’s finally getting the global spotlight it deserves.
