BINI’s Mikha Speaks Up About Language Criticism and Promotes Kindness Online

Mikha Lim, one of the standout members of the rising P-pop girl group BINI, recently addressed an online comment that questioned her frequent use of English during interviews and public appearances.

A netizen had pointed out her fluency in Filipino, suggesting that she was intentionally avoiding the language. Mikha didn’t shy away from the issue and instead gave a respectful and honest explanation.

Responding on X (formerly Twitter), Mikha explained that while she does speak fluent Tagalog, she sometimes struggles when she’s on camera or reading from a script. This leads her to choose English instead, just to make sure she speaks clearly and confidently. According to her, it’s not about pretending or trying to be someone she’s not, it’s just about comfort and clarity in the moment.

She shared that overthinking the exact Tagalog words to use can make her hesitant, so she ends up switching to English to avoid getting tongue-tied. “I get a little bulol,” she admitted, referring to the occasional stuttering or stumbling over words.

But Mikha didn’t just stop at clarifying her side. She took the opportunity to encourage her fans and followers to stay kind online. Her message was simple: no hate, just understanding. She emphasized that her response wasn’t meant to spark arguments but to clarify a misunderstanding.

As a reminder to everyone, Mikha said, “Let’s stop all the hate... Please spread kindness and just educate.”

Aside from addressing the issue, BINI has been busy making waves in local entertainment. The girl group is set to appear in a special Maalaala Mo Kaya episode that tells the story of fellow member Sheena Catacutan. Sheena will be playing herself in the episode, with actress Angelica Panganiban portraying her mother, marking Angelica’s return to acting.

BINI also recently wrapped up their fan event called Miniverse, a two-day gathering for fans held in Makati City. The event, filled with music, fun, and fan interaction, was hosted by none other than pop culture icon Jolina Magdangal.

Mikha’s graceful response and positive outlook remind fans and critics alike that everyone has their own way of expressing themselves, and that’s okay.
