As the second season of Weak Hero made its way to Netflix, the platform also added the first season — and it quickly climbed into the top 10 TV shows in several countries. Not bad for a series that originally premiered three years ago on South Korea’s Wavve!
At the heart of its lasting success, according to lead actor Park Ji-hoon, are two powerful elements: strong friendship and real character growth.
Speaking in a recent interview with ABS-CBN News, Ji-hoon explained that viewers really connected with the story because it focuses on the deep bonds between the boys. He even joked that the friendships are so strong, they almost look like a different kind of love from certain angles.
But it’s not just about camaraderie. Ji-hoon said the personal struggles and development each character goes through makes the story even more relatable. “It’s a coming-of-age story with a lot of heart. Every character has their own charm, and the way their relationships unfold builds something special,” he shared.
Weak Hero Class 2, which launched on April 25, picks up after the heavy events of the first season. Yeon Si-eun, Ji-hoon’s character, is still dealing with the emotional wounds he suffered. Transferring to a new school, he crosses paths with fresh faces — played by Ryeoun, Choi Min-yeong, and Lee Min-jae — who help him find healing. Of course, new challenges and enemies are waiting for him too.
Ji-hoon talked about how important these new friendships are for Si-eun’s journey. “He’s at a point where he really needs people around him. The new friends he meets play a big role in helping him grow, not just physically but emotionally too,” he said.
Fortunately, the chemistry between the actors felt natural. Ji-hoon mentioned that their bond off-camera grew strong quickly, making their on-screen friendship believable. “We had so much fun filming. We spent a lot of time together, laughed a lot, and it really shows in the series,” he said.
Ryeoun shared a touching story: Choi Min-yeong once traveled two hours from Seoul to Daejeon just to support them on set, even though he wasn’t part of the scene being filmed. “It meant a lot to us,” he said.
Lee Min-jae, who was already a fan of the first season before joining, hopes that viewers will remember the tight bond the characters share. “When tough times came, we stuck together. I hope that kind of friendship stays with the viewers after watching,” he said.
Weak Hero Class 2 isn't just another action drama — it's a story about pain, healing, and finding strength through real friendships.
