For TV host Bianca Gonzales, her one-and-a-half-year love affair with TV director Lino Cayetano felt like they had been together for five years. Although she has already accepted that Lino is now dating Sharon Cuneta’s daughter, KC Concepcion, Bianca admits she still feels hurt every time she sees her former boyfriend with his new partner. Lino, she says, still holds a special place in her heart.
"Of course, I don’t think that will ever go away. I’ll probably carry it with me forever because when you share a good time of your life with someone, you carry that with you," Bianca said during the press launch of Pinoy Big Brother Season 2 on February 14 at ABS-CBN’s 9501 Restaurant.
Bianca didn’t want to go into details about their break-up, despite the press’s persistent questioning about who initiated the separation.
"Sorry, I won’t answer that out of respect for Lino," she said.
However, Bianca did admit that her "affair" with model-turned-actor Zanjoe Marudo during their stint in Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition may have contributed to their falling out.
"I wouldn’t say it had nothing to do with it. Of course, it’s part of it. I wouldn’t say it’s the only reason, or the main reason. But it’s part of it. We both had our own pains and issues with each other. But after that, when we were okay, we were really enjoying our time together," Bianca explained.
After their break-up, Bianca kept a low profile and shied away from the press.
"Honestly, yes. I kept saying that even though 2006 was a tough year, especially towards the end. I thought I was okay, then it got hard, then okay again, then hard again. But all I kept thinking was that it was a blessing, because God planned it that way. That happened in October, and then I was so busy until December 16 with Pinoy Dream Academy’s Grand Dream Night. After that, I focused on my family and spent New Year with them out of town."
She continued, "I’m thankful that God gave me a timeline to heal better. By the time I came back, PDA was starting, and I was strong enough to talk about it. I wasn’t as emotional anymore."
Then came the news that Lino and KC were dating.
"The first time I heard about it, of course I was affected, but who wouldn’t be? Any normal break-up situation, when your ex finds someone new, you’ll be affected," Bianca admitted.
But even before the press caught wind of the Lino-KC relationship, Bianca already knew.
"He [Lino] told me about it. It was hard for him. You could see it in his eyes. He told me before anyone else found out. I was the first person he told. He mentioned their Hong Kong date, but I didn’t want to hear about it. It’s their business. But I could feel his respect for me because he didn’t want to shock me. That’s why he told me," Bianca shared.
How hard did she cry?
"A lot," she admitted. "I cried so much in 2006. It was so hard. I can’t even explain it."
When asked if there’s a chance her romance with Zanjoe could blossom again, Bianca said, "I’m not thinking about that. If two people break up, it doesn’t necessarily mean I need to have someone new in my life just because he has someone new."
Bianca also mentioned that she still stays in touch with Lino.
"We’re in touch," she revealed. "But not often, just a good number of times."
When asked if she was hoping for a reconciliation, Bianca replied, "Maybe, half yes, half no."
