A teary-eyed Regine Velasquez shared her reaction to the press following Ogie Alcasid’s tell-all in Yes! Magazine, according to reports by the tabloid Pang-Masa.
After months of media speculation and denials from both parties, Ogie finally admitted in the June 2007 issue of Yes! that he is “in love” with Regine and separated from his wife, former Miss Australia Michelle Van Eimeren. Highlights of the revealing interview were shared in the press even before the Yes! issue hit the newsstands.
Regine, on the other hand, didn’t wait to be asked by the media but instead gave a statement during the press conference for Pinoy Pop Superstar 3, fulfilling a previous promise to speak out only after Ogie had spoken.
Emotionally, Regine addressed the press, saying she felt both happy and scared now that the truth about their relationship was out.
“First of all, I want to thank all the press who have been kind to me and didn’t judge me too harshly. The truth is, I’m really happy because finally, it’s out. But at the same time, I’m also very scared of what people will say, and I’m afraid I’ll be judged again.
“I’ve been through a lot, and this relationship is really important to me because it’s the only one I have, and I hope it will be the only one I’ll ever have. The reason I’m scared is because, you know, usually when you admit something, it feels like you’re jinxing it. So, I’m scared of that.”
She also explained why they decided to confirm the rumors only now.
“A lot of people are asking why it’s only now. It’s because we were protecting a lot of people. He had to protect his family, and he had to protect me.
“Ogie has been through a lot, and he went through it alone. I wasn’t there with him. As much as I wanted to be there, I couldn’t go through those things with him. And I’m so happy he admitted it.
“But now that it’s out, I just want to say thank you to Ogie, and I love him very, very much!”
