In showbiz, it’s rare for young sweethearts to stay together for long. It’s not uncommon for couples to break up and move on to new partners faster than a director can say, “Action!” For a young couple to be together for nine months is an achievement, so Jennylyn Mercado and Patrick Garcia deserve more than just a pat on the back—they deserve a trophy. Despite the intrigue surrounding them, their romance continues to grow stronger.
What’s their “secret formula,” if any?
Holding hands as lovers should, Jennylyn and Patrick explained that they keep communication lines open and, as much as possible, don’t let rumors or intrigues affect them.
“What do I like most about Patrick? His patience. I can be moody, and he knows how to adjust to my moods.”
Shy by nature, Patrick admitted that Jennylyn is his first showbiz girlfriend, and he’s still adjusting to a situation that’s quite new to him—unlike Jennylyn, who has been linked to a few showbiz guys. She clarified, though, that she went steady with only one of them, Mark Herras.
Jennylyn and Mark are among the stars of Regal Films’ Tiyanaks, while Jennylyn and Patrick are paired in the Angels trilogy, the first venture of Eagle Eye Entertainment Productions, Inc., jointly owned by Angel Locsin and her manager, Becky Aguila. Angel herself stars in the Angel of Mine episode, directed by Gina Alajar; Marvin Agustin (Angel’s rumored suitor) in the Daddy’s Angel episode, directed by Dingdong Dantes; and Jennylyn and Patrick in the Angel of Love episode, directed by Mark Reyes.
“It’s our first time to work together in a movie,” said Jennylyn. “I’m happy.”
Since they are comfortable with each other, the sweethearts had no qualms about their love/kissing scenes.
Patrick had just returned from Alaska, where he spent two weeks with his father. Jennylyn wanted to join him but couldn’t due to her tight schedule. Her consolation? Patrick came home with loads and loads of makeup as her bilin (request).
