Yasmien Kurdi Takes Bullying Case to DepEd to Seek Accountability
Actress Yasmien Kurdi is taking a firm stand as she moves forward with a formal complaint involving her daughter’s past bullying experience at school.
The complaint was filed with the Department of Education, following what the actress described as a difficult period for her daughter, Ayesha. The issue first came to light in 2024, when Kurdi shared that her child had allegedly been bullied by classmates in a previous school in Makati.
Because of the situation, Ayesha temporarily stepped away from traditional schooling and shifted to homeschooling. She has since moved to a new school, where she continues her studies.
Recently, Kurdi shared an update about the case, expressing appreciation to the legal team assisting their family. She also acknowledged the support of Sonny Angara, whom she had spoken with earlier about the matter.
According to her, the decision to formally file the complaint was made with her daughter’s consent, backed by what she described as complete and factual evidence. For Kurdi, this step is not just about addressing what happened, but also about making sure proper action is taken.
She also hinted that the concern goes beyond the bullying itself, pointing to how the school may have handled the situation. This brings attention to the responsibilities of schools under the Anti-Bullying Act of 2013, which requires institutions to respond to such cases and protect students.
Kurdi emphasized that cases like this should not be ignored, and that accountability matters. She also encouraged other parents and students facing similar situations to speak up and reach out to authorities if needed.
The experience took a toll on her daughter, who reportedly went through several months of therapy as part of her recovery. It highlights how bullying can have lasting effects, not just inside the classroom, but beyond it.
With this move, Kurdi is pushing for awareness and action, hoping that schools and families work together to create safer spaces for students.
