105-Year-Old Woman Dies in Hit-and-Run in Occidental Mindoro

A tragic hit-and-run accident has left a family in Occidental Mindoro mourning the loss of their beloved Rosalina “Apong” Corpuz Dela Rosa, who had just turned 105 years old.

She had survived war, hunger, changing presidents, and the quiet disappearance of friends and neighbors over the decades. But what no one expected was that her long life would end so abruptly on a dark road near her home in Abra De Ilog.

According to Marilou Dela Rosa, Apong’s daughter-in-law, a relative was startled awake past midnight by a loud noise outside. Thinking a stray dog might have been hit, they stepped out to check. Instead, they found Apong lying motionless in the middle of the road.

Sadly, there was no chance to rush her to the hospital. It was too late. Nobody could tell what kind of vehicle was involved because the road was pitch black and the hour was late.

Her family is now pleading for justice, urging the driver responsible to step forward and accept responsibility. It pains them deeply that after living through so much, Apong’s final moments were stolen by careless driving.

Locals are also asking authorities to put up street lights to help keep their roads safer, especially for seniors like Apong who deserve protection and respect.

This heartbreaking incident is a wake-up call to update our road safety laws and tighten how driver’s licenses are given out. Penalties for reckless driving must be ten times stricter so tragedies like this never happen again.

May Apong’s memory remind us all that no one, young or old, should lose their life because someone chose to run away from their mistake.
