Russian Vlogger Vitaly Zdorovetskiy Pleads for Charges to Be Dropped
Vitaly Zdorovetskiy, a Russian content creator known for his controversial videos, is currently behind bars in the Philippines after harassing Filipinos in public to gain online views. Now, he’s asking for a way out.
In a letter addressed to Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla, Zdorovetskiy pleaded for the charges against him to be dropped, citing his struggles with mental health. According to reports, he expressed regret over his actions and asked for forgiveness.
However, DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla isn’t letting it slide. He confirmed receiving the letter but made it clear that there would be no special treatment. Despite Zdorovetskiy's apology, Remulla emphasized that the case must still push through, especially because of how the vlogger treated people in his so-called pranks.
The situation involves an incident where Zdorovetskiy allegedly harassed three Filipino security guards. Theft charges were initially considered but were eventually dismissed. Still, the Taguig Prosecutor's Office found enough evidence to move forward with a case for unjust vexation, a charge filed when someone deliberately annoys or disturbs another person without good reason.
What’s more, Zdorovetskiy’s legal team reportedly tried to settle things quietly with the guards involved. But the guards stood their ground and refused to be swayed, determined to pursue justice through the legal system.
As of now, the case is expected to reach court soon, and the Department of Justice seems intent on making sure foreign visitors know that Filipinos are not to be toyed with for online content.
