Justin Bieber is grieving the loss of someone very close to his heart—his maternal grandfather, Bruce Dale. The singer opened up about his passing in an emotional Instagram post, where he shared both sweet memories and his deep sorrow.
Known for being candid on social media, Justin didn’t hold back as he recalled the small but meaningful moments they shared. He posted an old photo with his grandfather and remembered how he used to convince him to spend his weekly allowance, just $20, on snacks at Friday night hockey games. From corn nuts to slush puppies, it was their little ritual. Even if Bruce was hesitant, he always gave in, proving just how much he adored his grandson.
In the same post, Justin joked about how his grandfather never held back at hockey games, especially when it came to heckling referees. It was clear that Bruce Dale had a bold personality and wasn’t afraid to speak his mind—something fans could easily imagine knowing Justin's own outgoing spirit.
What stood out most, though, was the tenderness in Justin’s words. He spoke about missing his grandfather terribly and finding comfort in the belief that they’ll meet again someday in heaven. He imagined his grandpa still cracking jokes and calling out referees from above, painting a lighthearted yet touching picture of his continued presence.
Bruce Dale wasn’t just important to Justin personally, he even made an appearance in the pop star’s 2011 documentary Never Say Never. In a later interview at the Stratford Perth Museum, he proudly supported Justin and looked back on his grandson’s journey with love.
Bruce passed away on April 24 at the age of 80 at Rotary Hospice in Stratford. Though he’s gone, it’s clear his legacy and the memories he created with Justin will continue to live on.
