Heaven Peralejo Shines with Best Actress Win at International Film Festival
Filipina actress Heaven Peralejo has once again proven her versatility and talent, earning the Best Actress award in the Suspense-Thriller-Horror category at the Jinseo Arigato International Film Festival held in Japan. Her powerful performance in the film Lilim, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Mikhail Red, captured the attention of the international jury and film fans alike.
In Lilim, Heaven takes on the role of Issa, a young woman who, along with her brother Tomas, escapes to a remote orphanage deep in the forest. What initially appears to be a safe hideout soon turns sinister, as the siblings discover they're surrounded by members of a mysterious cult. Heaven’s gripping portrayal of fear, strength, and survival helped bring the haunting story to life, and it clearly resonated with audiences and critics.
Interestingly, she wasn't the only one from the film to be recognized. Mikhail Red also won Best Director in the same genre category, marking a proud moment for Filipino cinema on the global stage.
Heaven expressed her gratitude online, saying she was still trying to process the overwhelming recognition. She made sure to thank the people who supported her throughout her journey, from her director and production team to her family and loyal fans. A particularly touching moment was when she acknowledged her mom, showing how grounded she remains despite her growing fame.
Joining her in Japan for the special night was her close friend, social media personality Kimpoy Feliciano. His presence and support meant the world to Heaven, and she made sure to express her appreciation online.
Fans and fellow celebrities flooded her social media with love and congratulatory messages. Actress Iza Calzado shared her pride, calling Heaven “Anak” and expressing heartfelt joy for her win. Many supporters echoed the sentiment, praising her talent and dedication to her craft.
This isn't the first time Heaven has been recognized for her acting chops. She previously took home a Best Actress trophy at the 2023 Luna Awards for her work in Nanahimik ang Gabi. With accolades continuing to come her way, it’s clear that Heaven is carving out a strong path in both local and international cinema.
