Baekhyun Shows a More Personal Side in New EP 'Essence of Reverie'

Baekhyun is back, and this time, he’s peeling back the layers. The EXO member dropped his newest solo EP, Essence of Reverie, earlier this week, and it’s all about showing fans a deeper, more personal version of himself.

Before the release, Baekhyun hosted a livestream where he talked about what makes this comeback different. At 33, with years of experience behind him, he’s stepping into a more introspective space. He explained that Essence of Reverie explores the fine line between who people think he is and who he truly is. He wanted to blend the expectations fans have with his authentic self, and bring something fresh to the table.

The EP features seven tracks, with the title single “Elevator” leading the way. It's a mix of pop and R&B with groovy guitar and synth sounds paired with a modern trap beat. The lyrics use the metaphor of an elevator to describe the ups and downs of emotions and the desire to truly understand someone’s heart. It’s poetic but relatable, classic Baekhyun, but with a twist.

Fans got an early taste of the project through the pre-release single “Chocolate,” which he promoted on local music shows in Korea. Now that the full EP is out, listeners can experience the full range of themes Baekhyun wanted to express, from romantic longing to self-discovery.

Aside from his new music, Baekhyun is also preparing to meet fans around the world. His “Reverie” tour is already scheduled to visit several countries, including a stop at the Mall of Asia Arena in the Philippines this October 18.

Since debuting in 2012 with EXO, Baekhyun has grown into one of K-pop’s most respected vocalists. From iconic group hits like “Love Shot” and “Ko Ko Bop” to his solo debut with City Lights in 2019, his musical journey keeps evolving, and Essence of Reverie proves he still has new stories to tell.
