Angelika dela Cruz Receives Threat With Bullets During Campaign

As the local elections heat up, actress-turned-public servant Angelika dela Cruz finds herself under serious threat. On May 9, she revealed through a Facebook post that she received a disturbing package, three bullets and a handwritten note warning her to pull out of the Malabon vice mayoral race.

The message was clear and threatening, warning her to quit or face the consequences. It's not the first time Angelika has faced something like this. During a previous election period in 2022, she also received threats paired with bullets. The similarities between these incidents are hard to ignore.

Angelika currently serves as the barangay chairperson of Longos, Malabon. Her decision to run for a higher position has placed her in a politically intense spotlight. Adding to the pressure, she’s also dealing with multiple legal issues. She’s facing a plunder case over alleged misuse of barangay funds totaling around ₱70 million, as well as an administrative complaint accusing her of neglecting her duties and letting her brother take over unofficially.

Despite the heavy accusations and growing tension, Angelika has remained vocal. She has dismissed many of the claims as part of a larger smear campaign, describing them as “dirty politics” meant to intimidate and stop her.

Online, many Filipinos have rallied behind her, with concerned netizens flooding her post with supportive messages. Some expressed anger over the violence and fear tactics in politics, while others called on authorities to ensure her safety and investigate the threats properly.

Angelika’s situation highlights a darker side of local politics where rivalry can cross dangerous lines. Whether one supports her or not, the need for protection, fair process, and respect in the electoral system is more urgent than ever.
