ABS-CBN’s BINI Documentary Makes It to New York Festivals Finalist List
Exciting news for fans of BINI and Filipino documentaries! BINI Chapter 1: Born to Win, a documentary by ABS-CBN, has earned a finalist spot at the prestigious 2025 New York Festivals TV & Film Awards. It's competing in the Biography and Profiles category, which features some of the best stories from around the world.
The documentary dives deep into the journey of the 8-member girl group, showing the challenges and triumphs they faced on the road to becoming one of the most talked-about acts in the country. From the pressures of training and auditions to personal struggles during the pandemic, the film captures their path to stardom with raw honesty.
This film was a collaboration between iWant Originals and ABS-CBN News Documentaries. It highlights the build-up to BINI’s major debut concert, BINIverse, which took place at the New Frontier Theater. For fans and newcomers alike, it’s a glimpse into the lives of these young women beyond the stage and spotlight.
Directed by filmmaker Jet Leyco and written by award-winning journalist Jeff Canoy, BINI Chapter 1 marks ABS-CBN News’ return to feature-length documentaries after four years. The production team also includes editor Brian Gonzales and producers Karen Namora, Hera Sanchez, and Tanya Jamon-Navarro.
ABS-CBN News Chief Francis Toral shared how proud the network is of BINI’s growing influence and praised the documentary team for their storytelling. “What a comeback for ABS-CBN News Documentaries,” he said, celebrating the international recognition.
This isn’t the first time ABS-CBN has been acknowledged at the New York Festivals. The network has previously taken home medals for impactful documentaries and public affairs programs such as #NoFilter: Tao Po, Fedelina: A Stolen Life, and the Marawi documentary Di Ka Pasisiil.
