With eight years of hosting experience, Ryan Agoncillo has been named "Outstanding TV Host" by an international award-giving body. Surprisingly, Ryan learned about the honor from the broadsheets.
In an exclusive interview with YES! Online on November 8 at Café Carabana in Quezon City, Ryan shared his mixed emotions. "To be honest, I don't know how to react. Every time somebody gives you something as important as this... the first thought is I wish I'm worth the award," he admitted.
He continued, "When they said I was the first ever recipient, there's added pride. The award is from the [United] States, and it means even Filipinos abroad, who don't see you every day, recognize your work. It's very flattering."
During the Cookie Jam fundraising event organized by his girlfriend, Judy Ann Santos, Ryan expressed his regret at not being able to accept the Gawad Amerika award in person. "I was supposed to go there to receive the award, but sadly, I have work here that won’t allow me to leave, even for just a week," he explained. Ryan currently hosts Magandang Umaga, Pilipinas on ABS-CBN, Y Speak Live on Studio 23, and Philippine Idol on ABC-5.
Gawad Amerika is an independent award-giving body based in the U.S. that recognizes the achievements of Filipino-American individuals in various fields, including acting, singing, and professional careers. The 4th annual Gawad Night will be held on November 18 at the Celebrity Center in Hollywood, California.
