Radio Host Nicole Hyala Faces Thyroid Cancer with Faith and Humor
Veteran radio personality Nicole Hyala recently revealed that she has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. In true Nicole fashion, she shared the news with calm honesty and a touch of humor, qualities that her fans have come to love her for over the years.
The update came through a heartfelt video posted on her social media, taken just two weeks earlier. On air, she opened up about her condition and how she’s processing it. “So… I just found out I have thyroid cancer,” she said. But instead of fear, Nicole responded with surprising peace. “According to experts, thyroid cancer is often called the 'friendliest' cancer. That’s good, because I’ve already been through worse.”
True to her resilient spirit, Nicole reflected on the many challenges she’s faced before—seasons in her life that nearly crushed her but didn’t. “I’ve survived storms that could’ve drowned me, and this is just another wave I know I can ride, with God beside me,” she said.
She also reminded everyone that while this diagnosis wasn’t part of her plan, she firmly believes it’s part of God’s. “He’s walked with me through deeper valleys,” she said, adding that her faith is what will carry her through this fight. Then, in a mix of strength and signature sass, she declared, “So let’s do this, thyroid cancer. You picked the wrong girl. Wag ako!”
Nicole also confirmed that she’s scheduled to undergo thyroidectomy—surgery to remove her thyroid—this coming July.
For those unfamiliar, thyroid cancer affects the small gland in the neck that regulates important body functions like metabolism and heart rate. It’s one of the more treatable forms of cancer, especially when caught early. Many patients recover fully with surgery and follow-up treatment.
Nicole’s openness about her health reminds us of the importance of early diagnosis, routine check-ups, and keeping faith even when life throws a curveball.
