Actress and comedienne Rufa Mae Quinto is now breathing a huge sigh of relief after the court officially dismissed the securities violation case filed against her. The complaint had stemmed from her previous endorsement of skincare brand Dermacare, which had been linked to an alleged investment scam.
The news was confirmed by her lawyer, Mary Louise Reyes, who shared the court’s decision through Instagram Stories on May 3. She expressed heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported Rufa Mae through the ordeal, including those who chose to believe in her innocence rather than judge too quickly.
According to Reyes, the Regional Trial Court of Pasay junked the case on April 24, 2025. But to be clear, the dismissal wasn’t based on whether Rufa Mae was guilty or innocent, it was thrown out due to a legal technicality known as "primary jurisdiction." This principle means that cases like this should first go through the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), not straight to the courts. Reyes emphasized that Rufa Mae is ready to cooperate fully if any formal complaint is properly filed through the right channels.
Despite everything, Rufa Mae kept her trademark energy and humor. Posting on Instagram, she declared, “I’m free as a kite!” and gave thanks to God for what she called her “GO GO GLORY” moment. She even treated herself to a little self-care at an aesthetic clinic and hinted at an exciting new project coming soon.
The case had been looming over her since January when she voluntarily turned herself in to the National Bureau of Investigation. She was released shortly after posting a P1.7 million bail.
Rufa Mae wasn't the only celebrity caught in the legal crossfire. Actress Neri Naig was also involved in similar cases due to her endorsement of Dermacare, but those were dismissed earlier in March for lack of probable cause.
For now, it looks like Rufa Mae is embracing her fresh start, grateful for those who stood by her and excited for what’s ahead.
