Monkeypox Cases Rise to 10 in South Cotabato

Health authorities in South Cotabato are keeping a close watch after ten people from different areas tested positive for monkeypox. These cases were spread across five municipalities, Banga, Tantangan, Lake Sebu, Surallah, and T’boli, as well as the provincial capital, Koronadal City.

According to Dr. Conrado Braña Jr., head of the South Cotabato Integrated Provincial Health Office, all patients are currently isolated and receiving care in designated facilities. Health workers are actively monitoring them and taking steps to ensure the virus does not spread further.

Breaking it down by location, there’s one case each in Banga, Tantangan, and Lake Sebu, two in Surallah, and four in T’boli. Koronadal City, which is near all these towns, also reported one confirmed case.

South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. shared that their team is working closely with the Department of Health in Region 12 to manage the situation. The local disaster risk council is also on board, helping coordinate efforts to contain the outbreak.

Authorities assured the public that measures are already in place to control the situation. Health personnel continue to monitor possible cases and are ramping up preventive actions in surrounding areas.

While the number isn’t massive, the health officials aren't taking any chances. Monkeypox, although not as contagious as other viral diseases, still requires quick and organized responses to stop it from spreading.
