It’s not every day that a well-known actor uses his platform to talk about politics, especially during such a tense and divided time. But John Arcilla, best known for his award-winning performance in Heneral Luna, recently decided enough is enough.
After facing backlash for expressing support for former senators Kiko Pangilinan and Bam Aquino, Arcilla responded head-on, not with anger, but with conviction. He reminded people that standing behind public servants who genuinely care isn’t about fanfare or self-interest. It’s about wanting a government that actually works for the people.
He pointed out something many of us feel but rarely say out loud: when you pay taxes, you hope it goes to improving lives, building decent hospitals, supporting free education, and making essential goods more affordable. What you don’t want is for that hard-earned money to end up in the pockets of corrupt officials or recycled political families.

Arcilla challenged the idea that politics should be left to politicians. For him, choosing good leaders isn’t just about policies, it’s about values. He believes voting is a responsibility, a way to help shape a country where public service means exactly that: serving the public.
To back his message, he shared a recent university survey where students placed Pangilinan and Aquino among their top picks. That says a lot about what younger generations are looking for, honesty, vision, and action.
Both former senators have long been known for championing causes close to everyday Filipinos: farming, food security, and education. These aren’t flashy topics, but they’re the kind that change lives if handled well.
At the end of the day, Arcilla’s message isn’t about convincing anyone who to vote for. It’s about reminding us that our vote is powerful. If we want real change, it starts with not settling for the same old names and broken promises.
Sometimes, doing what feels right will earn you a few critics. But as Arcilla showed, speaking out with purpose is always worth it.
