GMA Network Goes After TAPE Officials Over Missing Ad Money
GMA Network has taken legal steps against several executives of Television and Production Exponents, Inc. (TAPE), claiming that over ₱37 million in advertising revenue was never turned over as agreed. According to GMA, the money was supposed to go directly to them, based on a deal made in 2023, but instead, it allegedly ended up being spent on TAPE’s own operations.
The complaint, which was filed with the City Prosecutor’s Office in Quezon City, names six individuals from TAPE. Among those listed are Romeo Jalosjos Jr., the former President and CEO; his father Romeo Jalosjos Sr., who chairs the board; current TAPE President Malou Choa-Fagar, who previously served as COO; Treasurer Seth Frederick “Bullet” Jalosjos; Michaela Magtoto, who handled finance; and finance consultant Zenaida Buenavista.
The issue boils down to trust, GMA says. Under their agreement with TAPE, the ad revenue wasn’t just part of the usual business flow, it was meant to be held in trust for GMA. That means TAPE wasn’t supposed to touch the funds unless it was for the benefit of the network. But instead of forwarding the money, GMA alleges it was used to keep TAPE running.
GMA claims that even after sending formal demands, the funds were never remitted. This led them to take the matter to court, with the goal of holding those involved accountable and getting the money back.
It’s a serious move that signals just how big the fallout is between the long-time production partner and one of the country’s biggest networks.
