Former T.G.I.S. Star Red Sternberg Passes Away at 50
It was a heartbreaking week for fans of '90s Filipino TV as news broke about the passing of Red Sternberg, one of the original stars of T.G.I.S. He died suddenly on May 27, 2025, in the United States at the age of 50.
The news was confirmed by TV and film director Mark Reyes through a Facebook post made on May 30, a date that would have marked Red’s 51st birthday. In his message, Direk Mark expressed deep sadness over losing someone who had been part of the beloved youth-oriented show that aired in the late '90s.
“Red’s wife, Sandy, confirmed the heartbreaking news to us just a few days ago,” Mark shared. “The entire T.G.I.S. barkada is mourning. Kiko, we love you. Group hug.”
Sandy Sternberg, Red’s wife, also posted an emotional message on Facebook. She described how difficult it has been, especially as the tragedy coincided with what was supposed to be a joyful time filled with birthdays in their family. “My husband passed away suddenly on the morning of May 27th. May was always our month, filled with celebrations,” she wrote.
She chose not to reveal the cause of death but requested privacy as the family processes this unexpected loss. Red is survived by Sandy and their three children.
Many remember Red Sternberg as Kiko, the cheerful and mischievous member of the barkada in T.G.I.S., which aired on GMA-7 from 1995 to 1999. He starred alongside Angelu de Leon, Bobby Andrews, Rica Peralejo, Onemig Bondoc, and other young stars who helped define a generation of Filipino teen drama.
Red also had a string of movie projects under Viva Films, appearing in titles like Takot Ka Ba Sa Dilim?, T.G.I.S. The Movie, Laging Naroon Ka, and My Pledge of Love. Aside from T.G.I.S., he also appeared in other shows like Anna Karenina and Sana Ay Ikaw Na Nga.
Though his showbiz career was relatively short, Red left a mark. Eventually, he moved to the U.S. where he chose a quieter life, focused on work and raising his family.
As fans remember Kiko's charm and Red's on-screen presence, many are sending love and prayers to his loved ones during this incredibly tough time.
